There are two kinds of bullshit in the world: Intentional and Unintentional Bullshit. Intentional bullshit is the kind of bullshit you hear from politicians: Contrived, erroneous, feel-good rhetoric and downright lies. Unintentional bullshit is what many people call, "Everyday bullshit." This kind of bullshit is evident when your kid and another student get in a fight at school and only your kid is punished. You see it every day; and it feeds off inconsistency.
Let me give you a more concrete example: Liberals. The word "liberal" is derived from the Latin word, Liber, meaning free[1]. It should logically follow that liberals are strong advocates of everyone's rights. Let's see:
Should gays be allowed to marry? Yes. Should women have the right to have an abortion? Yes, under certain circumstances. Should every member of every race be considered equal? Yes. Should even one religion be pushed onto our kids in public schools? No. Sounds pretty good so far, doesn't it? Then, we run into this: Should a 21 year-old non-felon have the right to a weapon-- concealed or otherwise? No.
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense: Why would a group who should (by the definition of its own name) support rights be against our right to own a fucking pistol? That's not very consistent, and it breeds a lot of bullshit.
Another example: These Creationist assholes. First they wanted to "teach both sides" (Evolution AND Nonscience), and now they want to teach "Criticisms of Evolution." Why not teach Criticisms of Gravity? Because gravity doesn't make people realize they don't need to believe in a god if they don't want to?
Furthermore, there's nothing to criticize that science hasn't already criticized. After all, science relies on criticism to sort the good ideas from the bad ones. These assholes usually don't realize it, but the idea they have an argument against is called Abiogenesis, not evolution. And even if they taught "Criticisms of Abiogenesis," it would have to be limited to, "Scientists have not yet proven it, but there is substantial evidence that indicates it took place."
It all comes down to this: On some level, everyone is dishonest. These so-called liberal assholes who don't want you to carry a gun aren't being liberal. They describe themselves as liberal, and some publish articles in liberal newspapers, but they're not doing the liberal thing and supporting our rights. (That's part of the reason why I refuse to politically label myself.)
To be fair, these Creationist assholes might be more delusional than dishonest, but they're still lying cocksuckers who will lie in front of a judge to try to turn a science class into a Christian Recruitment Center. Fuck them.
If you're going to advocate a specific viewpoint, the least you could do is be consistent about it. I have to give Pastor Fred Phelps due credit here: He's so consistent about his bigotry that he hates his own country. But on the other hand, he claims not to be racist while professing a hatred of the Chinese, Swedes, Canadians, Irish, British, Mexicans and Americans[2]; so fuck him too.
If you're as sick of the bullshit as I am, be honest with yourself and consistent with your arguments. That means no white-lying to make a person feel better. Honesty or bust!
