Our world is filled with stupid people who come up with equally stupid ideas. To reinforce this point, I've decided that every once in a while I will post a list of the stupidest ideas I've had the misfortune of hearing. You will envy the blind and the deaf when you hear the idea that inspired this decision. It's so stupid that it already won the "Stupid Idea of the Year" award for 2008 and it's only May.

Introducing Paul Broun, Republican Representative of the Georgia's 10th Congressional District and author of H.R. 5821, a bill that would outlaw pornography on military bases. To help illustrate why this is a bad idea, here is my good friend, Captain Obvious.

According to a Newsweek article[1], one reason this bill was drafted is the theory that if you deny someone access to porn, they are less likely to commit sexual assaults. However, common sense says that if you suddenly deny our soldiers' right to pornography, there will be disasters.
Another point was that Congressman Broun was concerned of tax dollars being spent on pornographic magazines. Of course, this prompted him to propose a bill that will inevitably fail due to being unconstitutional and therefore waste tax money.
Congratulations, Paul Broun, you win the first ever Dawkins Award (which is like the Darwin Award, only you don't have to help natural selection by dying in the process of being stupid).
